Medical Acupuncture

A safe, evidence-based treatment delivered by a physiotherapist to help relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and support recovery.

Medical acupuncture is used within physiotherapy as part of an integrated approach to rehabilitation, helping to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms and support better movement.

Supporting Your Recovery, Pain Relief & Wellbeing

Whether you’re dealing with a new injury, long-standing pain, or stress-related tension, medical acupuncture can help you feel more comfortable and move more freely.

What is Medical Acupuncture?

Medical acupuncture is a clinical treatment used by physiotherapists to support pain relief and rehabilitation. Fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points in the body to help reduce pain, calm sensitivity in the nervous system, ease muscle tension, and support the healing process.

At Henleaze Physio Clinic, acupuncture is used as part of your wider physiotherapy plan—not as a stand-alone “quick fix”. We’ll assess what’s driving your symptoms and integrate acupuncture where it’s most helpful.

Medical acupuncture may help to:

  • Provide effective relief for both new and long-standing pain

  • Reduce stress and promote relaxation

  • Support injury healing and recovery

  • Improve how muscles activate and release

  • Assist rehabilitation by enabling better movement and comfort

What parents need to know

If you plan on booking a session for your child, keep the following in mind:

  • You should accompany your child if they are under 18.
  • Your child should wear comfortable clothes like PE gear.
  • You don’t need to see a doctor first — if your child is in pain, we can help without a referral. If needed, we can always refer you to a specialist.
  •

Common issues that medical acupuncture may help with include:

New or long-standing pain

Acupuncture can support pain relief by helping to reduce sensitivity in the nervous system and promote the body’s natural pain-modulating chemicals.

Muscle tightness & tension

Often used to reduce muscle guarding, trigger point sensitivity, and stiffness—helping you move more comfortably.

Inflammation & overuse symptoms

May help settle inflamed or irritated tissues when used alongside rehabilitation, loading advice, and manual therapy.

Stress, poor sleep & relaxation

Acupuncture may help regulate stress responses and encourage relaxation, often supporting better sleep and general wellbeing.

I had been struggling with persistent pain and tightness that was limiting my training and day-to-day movement. The acupuncture treatment was explained clearly and delivered with great care. Highly professional and I’d absolutely recommend Henleaze Physio Clinic.
